Hi, everyone,

I picked up a book a couple of weeks ago that I wanted to share with everyone, and suggest it as a possibility for the "reading list."

The name of it is "The Practice of Poetry, Writing Exercises from Poets Who Teach," edited by Robin Behn and Chase Twichell.

The exercises are divided into seven parts, and include sections on metaphor, voice, and structure, to list some examples. There is also a section on revision.

One of the aspects of this book that I find extremely valuable as a beginning poet is that most, if not all of the exercises contain references to published poems that illustrate what the exercise is emphasizing. So the writing of poetry is immediately connected with the reading of it.

I thought I would share the suggestion, as I have been really enjoying this book.

This post might be better placed in Voyages of Discovery.

But if book suggestions should be posted here, I'd like to know. It would be good to keep in mind for the future.
