slightly confused newbie!

Not even sure this is the place to post a simple question.

I can't sem to find anything which tells me the meaning of the icons to the left of the threads. You know, the little folders that seem to do odd things at random: mainly yellow, some red, little flames. What does that mean?????

Have sussed out that a little red dot means I've posted to that thread.

And I'm sure the explanation is both simple and obvious.

Never claimed to be the brightest candle on the birthday cake!

Hi kelso1962, the red folders mean that they are new posts to you, the yellow ones mean that you have read them. If they have flames, that means that either they have ten posts or have been read (I think) 140 times. (I think anyway). If you scroll down to the bottom of the page with the icons on, it does tell you.

Am a slow learner, but suspect I'm just starting on a long association with this site.

Admit to feeling a bit stupid! Rather like asking for directions, only to discover what you're looking for is right behind you. [and yes, before any asks, I also do that a lot!]
