It seems to me that in the past few weeks there's been a surprising influx of crap poems into High, and while the mods - faithful as ever - categorically remove them, they still take up slots on the board that could (and in my opinion should) be filled by quality poetry. I'm not sure whether the spaces occupied by the "moved" links just add to the display, or whether they bump other works off down the line, but either way they're a bit of a distraction. Is there any way that you guys could move those posts without displaying the links in the High forum? (Send the poster an automated PM or something?)

It would certainly be welcome to those whose poem gets needlessly bumped off the chain into PFFA oblivion.

I think that High moves so slowly that even with the Moved links it takes several weeks for a post to move off the first page. These links also serve another purpose, in that they act as a standards warning, and, hopefully, a deterent.

Another reason: it provides a clue to where the post was moved.

This complaint arose some time ago when the new software was launched. I believe the few reasons listed here did, at the time, outweigh the few aesthetic or personal reasons for simple deletion/relocation.

Well yeah, but couldn't a PM to the poster and a quick perusal of the other boards do the job just as well, without taking up space on High?

Not all posters have their PM function activated, and sending them e-mails just adds more work for the mods--something we're not looking for.

Hopefully, there is some degree of deterrent effect, although those who overestimate their abilities and underestimate the importance of forum guidelines probably are also inobservant enough to pay too much attention to previous blunderers' blunders.

Even if not, our concern is much less with aesthetic effect than other issues.

And anyway, one of us (usually me) goes in about once a month or so (more if I remember) and cleans house, deleting the moved posts.

I'd prefer to move posts cleanly, but as Howard says that means that we also would have to PM the author. And with the recent influx of idiocy in the higher critical forums (doesn't anybody look before they leap these days) that would take all day.

Off to delete some posts.

Weird - I was thinking about this yesterday. Not the moving/deleting side of it, necessarily, but the fact that of the 25 poems on Page 1 of high, 10 of them have been moved.

Sigh.
Overzealous newbies, I suppose.
