Ain't it typical - some kind soul offers you webspace to post your innermost musings, then some other bastard comes along and rates it.

Anyways, I visited my page today (dust and polish time), then spent some time wandering around. Currently there are:

17 sites in the Experimental section;
8 sites in the Formal section;
73 sites in the General section;
6 sites in the Teen section; and
631 sites in the Under Construction section.

Given the sheer number of sites, it's difficult to know which ones to visit. So I'm undertaking an audit. Partial results follow.

The rating system I am using is a score between 0 and 5, with:

0 - site not built, or spam, or full of dead-end links
1 - timewaster
2 - routine poetry
3 - poetry that shows some promise
4 - some good solid poetry
5 - notable poetry

I'll make no apologies for putting noses out of joint. If other people want to disagree with my scores, feel free to do so - or even better, undertake an audit of their own and publish the results on this board.

Here follow the results of my trawl through Experimental, Formal and Teen:

I did spot one instance where someone had posted work that was not their own - as this person has colour-indexed work and quotes by themselves and by others, I think the lack of attribution was an oversight on their part. I'd strongly suggest to the person that they should attribute the quotes very quickly, and remove the poem - the Amplifier rules are explicit: all work posted should be the poet's original work.

I'll do the big swing through the general section over the next few hours ...

Actually, the trawl through General was not as painful as I thought it was going to be. As I said earlier, these are my opinions on the quality of work posted to the Amplifier - if you disagree with my judgement, please feel free to offer your own alternative assessment.

Oh, and Béla - some of those pop-up adverts (particularly the ones down the left hand side) bugger up a few people's poem layouts. Any tips for these people on how to rectify the situation?

Ummm . . . I'm confused. I'm not so worried about the ratings, but I do have five pages with pictures and six poems on 'em. Have I posted something incorrectly?

Can you see me now? (http://www.everypoet.net/earthshoes/)

Hey, thanks.

Mary, I don't know how you did it, but the problem is your site's not actually in the main window where it should appear. It's way down at the bottom, where the background is. Anyone coming to visit sees only a big blank white space, unless they scroll down to see if anything's there.

Thanks Rachel.

Well, that's odd. It loads fine in my screen with the white box only showing up at the top (about a quarter of the screen at the most). It does something similar to what you're describing on the kids'computer; they're using my fifteen inch back up monitor so that must be part of it. It loads correctly on the computers at the school too. It's been nearly a year since I designed it,so I can't remember how I did it, but I managed to work around the white box by shrinking it.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it and I'll see what I can do about it after I get off work this afternoon.

Until I can remember how I made the white box shrink (on everybody else's screen) I'll put everything back into it. 'Looks like I need to do some updating anyway.

So here it is again (http://everypoet.net/earthshoes/)

Eek! I hadn't seen that. All my poems are squashed. It would nice if they appeared in the border rather than the area available for the poems, if that were possible.

A B+! I'm so pleased! :)

You can use tables to control the placement of text on the page. I used them in several places to center a poem while keeping the text left-justified.

Hi Rik,

I'll make no apologies for putting noses out of joint.No need to here - I'm flattered by the rating of 3 (still so much to learn...)
