View Full Version : my crit in Nanphi's Hummingbird thread

Could someone other than me please verify that my crit exists in Nanphi's Hummingbird poem in High? For some reason the board doesn't seem to indicate it's there, although I still have my browser tab that shows my crit at the end of the thread, and I've still been seeing later posts come up on the board. When I search for my posts, it says I posted to the thread, but it says the thread only has 5 replies even though it already had 5 replies before I posted.

Hi, Kaem--
Your crit is definitely there, right after Nanphi's response to several others.

According to the "High" Forum Index, the last post to that thread was by Rob; however, both Nanphi's reply to Rob and your post are actually present in the thread. Basically, the board has found a new way to glitch--posts not showing up in the forum index or the main board index even when they're there in the threads. This has happened several times in the last 3 days. Whee.

Thanks. I guess I'll have to take up the new hobby of clicking on all the threads to see what's actually in them.

It also turns out that, when a post doesn't register in the index, the thread isn't moved to the top of the forum, so it appears that there haven't been any new posts to the thread even though there have been.

Béla thinks this problem will be resolved when he moves Everypoet to a new, dedicated, and expensive (hint, hint (http://www.everypoet.org/support.htm)) server in a few more days.

Howard -

Drop me a note after Bela gets everything fixed. I just had a lengthy reply in the schooner dropped (the system said "Thank you for your reply" and never posted it) and I don't think I'll be very enthusiastic about further participation if this kind of thing isn't brought under control.

I had a similar problem when posting to Neddy Nederlander's Poetry vs Prose thread in Voyages.

All I had to do was hit the "Back" button to return to the screen where I had typed the reply. All that I typed was still there, and I was able to try "Submit" again.

Remember, the "Back" button is always available in such a case, just as in any other case when the screen changes. Your work is only truly lost if you close the browser window.

Subsequently, I posted to another thread and the post appeared but did not "register". (The thread did not bump to the top, my name did not appear as last poster etc.)

I just went into "Edit" on the post, and did a "Select All" on the text in the Reply box and hit Ctrl-C to copy the text. Then I deleted the original post using the "Delete Post" feature, went back into "Post Reply" and pasted the copied text with Ctrl-V and was able to repost afresh. This time it "took".

Gee, Brian

Thanks for the information.

All I need to do is to carefully audit every message I send and manually resubmit if there are any problems.

That sounds a whole lot easier than actually fixing the problem.

John,

The problem is being addressed. (As you know, other boards such as the Gaz crash from time to time, and they don't have the traffic PFFA's server has to contend with.)

For the time being, just do what I do--copy your comments before you post. That way the time you've invested won't be down the tubes. If that's unsatisfactory, we'll see you around after the problem's solved.

Ummm . . . Donner and I must have cross posted. What she said (concerning copy/paste) and . . .

If I am really intense about a crit, or am working with a seriously glitchy computer that likes to shut itself off without warning, I might even copy the whole project to a word processing program or word pad, do it there and then transport it back to the text box on the site.

I just had it happen to a crit I was posting in Love. My post is actually there and visible if one opens the thread, but reply count and name of last poster weren't updated, nor was the thread moved up the page. This isn't the first time I've noticed this odd effect, but it seems to sort itself out eventually.

*whines*

But Saturday is my day offfff (really enlongated whine here)! Couldn't you choose a really boring day like Monday when I'll be too busy anyway?

Seriously, thanks for everything Bela. I'll be along with my pennies in my sweaty little fist on payday.
