After sifting through reams of information that has confuzzled my brain - I have found out how to say 'HELLO!!!' After reading about abstractions and cliches I am now convinced my work needs work! HELP. It's a scary prospect having my work critisised even in 'General' - this is the dawn of realisation and education me thinks :)

So many rules/guidelines so I will apologise now if I get it wrong - I will try my best.

Just a few things to share with you. Love love love Sylvia Plath who's work was introduced to me through AS Literature (actually it's more of a love/hate relationship because of the way she effects me) and have started to come to grips with where Emily Dickinson is coming from.

I find it extremely difficult to write, having being mute for a few years so therefore I appreciate words ever the more so. Words mean so much - so I am looking forward to reading and disecting on other peoples poetry :D

I love these smilies!

I hope to be an active participant of this workshop and put aside my insecurities and get on with it. If you say something I don't understand I will ask and then ask again until I get it and then shout for joy from the top of a mountain :)

Happy reading, happy writing - Yikes! I'm here!!!

Hello and welcome to Pffa. I hope you can learn and improve here. There are a lot of rules and guidelines but they are all there for a purpose. And no one gets banned for a first offence! If you have any questions this thread is a good place to ask them.

You're doing the right thing by looking around the site and reading threads on abstractions and clichés.

Have fun.

Monk.

P.S. go easy on the smileys in the poetry forums!

If you've been reading extensively, then you've probably already gathered a few things about PFFA, but I'll run through them just in case:

1. Reading such things as the "Posting Guidelines," the "New Posters' Orientation," and the various forum guidelines is an important first step as they will give you a clear idea of what PFFA's expectations of you will be, and those are just as important as your expectations of PFFA.

2. Lurking and reading a good bit in any forum before posting is strongly recommended; this includes reading any stickies lodged at the top of most forums.

3. Recognizing that PFFA's focus is exclusively on the work itself rather than on the writer makes clear why many of the critiques here are ratherly strongly worded and often negative; this in turn means that those who post here should already have a strong commitment to working hard and developing as writers as well as the ability to separate their egos from their work.

With those points in mind, welcome to PFFA.

"no one gets banned for a first offence!"

That's not necessarily true; it depends entirely on the nature of the offense.

Thank you all for the welcome :)

I will refrain from smilies when typing my poems, giggle. I accept, most humbly, that words are words and not the people - it is the work that counts (am really itching to do another smiley).

Once I have digested what is expected and got my barings I'll take the plunge and I look forward to being a part of this site.

All the best, Bubble :D (last smiley honest - it's either that or kisses)
