I have recently become moderator of a small and humble Creative Writing corner of a discussion board that isn't basically about poetry; one of the members there posted a link to this forum as a place of interest for those who wanted more poetry forum than our little corner at Ebla. I came over to check it out and I like, I like. I've added this to my bookmarks of forums-to-check-in-on-every-day, and I will be recommending it to others.
I was born into a family that considered reading and writing to be common human activities, and I have been doing both all of my life. The first poem I remember writing was at five; I remember the act of making the poem, anyway, but unfortunately I don't recall the poem. It had something to do with the way the sun sparkled on snow. I've been writing all my life, but my writing has changed through different periods of my life. In 1995, I became homeless for awhile, and my writing was certainly influenced by that. I began a writing workshop for homeless and low-income adults, and that has been a marvelous experience, demonstrating over and over again that being able to speak from the heart and be heard is a healing experience all by itself.
I am a big proponent of "writing isn't just self-expression, it's communication" and encourage learning by critique. Not everybody, however, wants to learn by critique. :) So I'm always pleased to find a place where critique is valued.
I've been writing a lot more essays than poetry lately, and I want to keep up my poetry, so I'm glad to find this place, and hope it will be a stimulus. I look forward to reading and talking with you all.
