Hi, to all. I have been looking around and plucked up the courage to join. Read a lot of rules and information. I think I'll start off in the beginners section - you guys are tough. I have been on one other site for a few months and writing poetry for a few years. I can see by this site I have a lot to learn. Thought I was doing okay knowing what stanzas are. :) warm regards - huni.

Dani thanks for the welcome. Yes I have been lurking - so glad I did that first and read all the important stupidity prevention stuff. Hope it works. :) It does look like an incredible site. I have been writing Haiku for a few years and just started poetry after joining the other site I mentioned. It was a nice place, but I think I want some serious help to improve. thanks again - huni. Just a question? Is it best to start of with my first pieces as if I was just beginning and develop from there or go with my latest one? I only have about 6 or 7. h.

Hey Huni,

Nice to see someone familar. I think there's at least a couple of your poems that could be posted in the 'high critique' section, but then again I thought "I was Here" was good enough, so what do I know?

Regards,
Jason

You could spend a while here learning what haiku actually is (http://www.everypoet.org/pffa/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9943).

*Is it best to start of with my first pieces as if I was just beginning and develop from there or go with my latest one?*

Putting your best foot forward seems to work the best.

Foot. Get it? 'Foot'? You'll learn a lot of great poetry jokes here, too!

Welcome to the boards.

Jason you maniac!! It IS good to see a familiar name. Thanks for saying hi. I think I will stick to beginners though. I'll check yours out - not sure if I read it.
Brian, thanks for the hello and the Haiku link. I will check it out. Foot? See I'm stupid already and haven't even started. :( - huni.

deciding where to post first can be tricky. Here's a good rule of thumb--look through the boards, and have a good look at the critiques. In High and Merciless, the critiques can go on for paragraphs about obscure footnotes--if you can do that, well, you might make it there. If it seems intimidating and surreal still, as it does to me, start in General or in C&C.

If you can already answer to yourself what a cliche is, an abstraction is, and what showing vs. telling means, you should be fine in C&C. If not, bone up on those and other goodies in the Blurbs of Wisdom.

Best of Luck

Dani, thank you for the advice - I'm going general and reading up in the mean time. Abstraction?? help! :) I'm so freaked out I'm spell checking my comments. Regards huni.
