I have a horrible problem (poor me!)- I live on the Island of Bali where there are NO bookshops (definitely no snow or elves), and therefore I can't lay my hands immediately on books which have been recommended as good for new poets. Can anyone recommend any good sites on the web that offer tuition in some form or other? If yes, I'll reconsider my current view that there isn't a Santa Claus!

Thanks and Happy Christmas http://www.everypoet.com/poetry/poetry_forums/smile.gif

addall.com amazon.com bn.com

etc...

Ann,

The only "tutoring sites" I know of on the Web are offered sporadically. Some of the best ones are fee-based ($200US and up). You may be better off ordering the books and waiting the month or so it takes them to arrive (or paying a premium rate to get them sooner.)

Hi John (and Gabriel) - thanks for the suggestions - unfortunately there are certain countries in Asia (and I've lived in a few!) for which 'First Class' or 'Express' Post simply doesn't exist - even a letter (let alone a parcel!) posted from countries relatively close (e.g. Singapore / Australia) can take up to two months to reach, sometimes it doesn't reach at all! I'm therefore jittery about post! I did get a pointer by garyg re a site offering tuition (I don't mind paying, as I'm quite serious about wanting to learn) - but although I wrote to them asking when their next course would be (some weeks ago) I have yet to receive a reply! And finally, while in Singapore, (which does have bookshops!) I could only find one book on writing poetry! Consequently, as you can imagine, I'm trying to explore other avenues that would offer immediate help in the short term (of course I must add here that Charon's Leaky Schooner is a bonus!). I guess that means that I'm still hoping that someone can show me that Santa does indeed exist (or perhaps even an elf would do?). Thanks again!

If there is a US Consulate on Bali, they may be able to assist you with the book ordering process. Cultural attaches really do want to perform useful work for the most part.

* Now that's what I call lateral thinking - and well worth a try! Thanks John!
