The prose forum is, to a large extent, ignored in the shadow of the critical poetry forums. It seems as though it is only a token acknowledgement of the form, in a generally poetry orientated site.
Neophyte offers a great little handbook for poetry in the form of an email attachment. I hope to do the same in relation to prose. It was while I was brosing the site yesterday that I came across Neophyte’s offer and it struck me as a great idea. So I said to myself, Why not have one for Prose?
The point of starting this topic is to encourage people to offer advice to poets wishing to branch out into prose, and to those who are generally more drawn to the prose forum.
Please try to address the following:
1. What make good prose good?
2. Gathering of ideas
3. The sentence
4. Word choice
5. Planning the piece
6. Developing plots and ideas
7. Imagery and Detail
8. Concluding your piece
9. How best to utilize advice given
10. Symbolism in prose
These were just some things that came to mind, but please do not feel restrained to these heading. ANY advice would be welcomed. I will also be scanning the Prose forum for the best of the advice given there.
Also, please try to keep your advice structured to make it easy to take out the best parts.
Thanking you for your time in advance.
